plus unit 5, coursework, giving access to grades A* to D.
Paper 2: two hours duration with 50% weighting.
Paper 4: one hour duration with 25% weighting.
Component 5: 25% weighting. Internally assessed
and externally moderated.

Unit 2680, The Physical Environment, 1 hour
15 minutes written examination, weighed 40% at AS, 20% at A2.

minutes written examination and coursework, weighed 30% at AS, 15% at

Geography, 1 hour 30 minutes written examination, weighed 15%. L.S.S.

1 hour 30 minutes written examination, weighed 20%. L.S.S. options “Managing

Government and Politics
Both AS and A2 Government and Politics are
offered to students at Lawrence Sheriff School and the subject is another
example of the school’s personalisation program.
AS Government and Politics
AS Government and Politics is offered as
a two year course to students in year 10 as an alternative to taking a
GCSE option. The course follows the AQA specification and is delivered
through 3 taught periods per week throughout both years 10 and 11.
Module Gov 1 and half of Gov 2 are studied in year 10 and the second half
of Gov 2 and Module Gov 3 in year 11. As a result the students are entered
for examination for Modules Gov 1 and Modules Gov 2 in January of year
11 and then sit the examination for Gov 3 in June.
A2 Government and Politics
A2 Government and Politics is offered as
a one year course to students in either years 12 or 13 provided they have
already taken the AS. The course follows the AQA specification and is
delivered through 5 taught periods per week. Modules Gov 4, 5 and 8 are
studied and the students are entered for examination in June.
Staff and Students
The subject is increasing in popularity and
numbers of students taking the course in year 10 has increased every year
since it was first offered 3 years ago. There are year currently 14 students
in year 10 and 9 in year 11 taking the AS course, together with 6 students
in year 12. Both AS and A2 Government and Politics are taught by Mr. O.

WORLD CHALLENGE
The geography department has led 5 expeditions around the world with the "world challenge" group. This has led groups of year 11, 12 and 13 to India, Canada, Peru & Tanzania. The current trip will be in the Summer of 2008 to Chile. The popularity of these trips has increased so much that 4 groups are now going.
